@alexcox my experience in Arizona is admittedly limited to what seems like a fairly affluent corner in the northeast of Tucson, but I’ve been roaming around being very visibly trans in a condo complex full of elderly snowbirds I had presumed to be at least 50% bigots, and no one as so much as scowled at me. I’ve been welcomed to the hot tub in my 2-piece swimsuit and treated as a neighbour. Your mileage may vary, but I’ve been experiencing this yearly since 2015 and it’s lovely.

@dan it’ll be a pretty brief tour, but it’s wholly geared towards the outdoors: I am running a 37 mile race on the 19th that begins in Mayer and ends in Black Canyon City. My parents are crewing for me and we got an Airbnb in the north side of the city as a sort of base camp, so we don’t have to drive up from Tucson and then back down again on race day.

I was restless on a rest day, so I took a short, easy hike up Ventana Canyon. Amazing what a beautiful sights there are, just one mile up from the trailhead.

@dan no, I’m actually dead serious! It’s so nice to be in a big weird quirky city, where the weather has such a profound impact on how everybody lives
