That is, unless GROFF_NO_SGR is set. The only places I found it documented were on the Internet (for Linux-specific xman weirdness) and in the grotty(1) manpage.

I forgot to note why GROFF_NO_SGR needs to be set when starting xman on #FreeBSD:

During compiling, xman.c checks which OS it's being compiled on & hardwires `nroff -mandoc` as its page formatting aid if it detects the BSDs. However, nroff's mandoc macros output ANSI escape codes, while xman expects typewriter-style "back up & overstrike" codes.

Want to use xman on #FreeBSD? Start it this way to get manpages formatted right:

More progress with my desktop theme. There's still some work left, but it's mostly usable & somewhat presentable.

4 xbiff mail boxes beside 3 mail action icons (read mail, write mail, use webmail), above "Netscape" (Firefox), Xpdf, Gimp (rockin' the Deluxe Paint I brush), canfield solitaire, & a drawer for pcmanfm. I still need a volume mixer & frequent Web bookmarks.

My minimalist work desktop so far. wmx as my window manager, idesk for all the decorations & static icons, & xcal, xload, xclock, & xbiff as undecorated windows. My load avg peaked above 1.0, & I got new mail while taking screenshots (using xbiff icons I drew today).

Neat accessibility feature (for a11y allies): When attaching things, there's a text box at the bottom where you can describe it for folks with screen readers & anyone who just wants a tooltip before clicking on it.
