Ich so zur Grundschultochter auf dem Comicfestival:

„Okay, such dir *einen* Comic aus. Die Halle ist groß, nimm nicht das Erstbeste, nimm was, das dich wirklich interessiert.“

Tochter so:

How to explain Berlin's Comic Invasion Festival to tech geeks

“ [s]Well it's booths and talks and discussions...[/s] ”

“ [s]Picture an open world version of Kickstarter's Comics and Illustration tab...[/s]”

“Okay, it's like re:publica, but without the Bundeswehr. And no 200 Euro paywall. But lots of comics.”

So support your local indie comix culture and drop by!
Last chance today, open til 7 pm.

@strypey In any case I would recommend to already switching to apps like Thunderbird, Firefox or the LibreOffice suite before she makes the jump, so that there are small islets of familiarity from the get-go. That helps!

@strypey I haven't used PureOS yet, but it looks like both distros are valid choices.

Being used to , PureOS looks a little less polished, but I heard that you can import your iTunes library without much hassle.

Elementary otoh tries to deliver a terminal-free experience. So you get notifications when there are updates and you can install them via the AppCenter GUI.

Also, if you install elementary tweaks there's an option to make windows look more OSX-like.

Last day of my kids’ workshop today, and one girl gave me an idea that will console me the next time I’ll rather want to work on my own comic instead of teaching others.

She’s also into Karate and we talked belts and ranks. Turns out you can only achieve some of the (higher-than-black-belt) Dans if you are actively teaching others. There’s no other way!

So there’s a level of excellency I could never achieve as lone wolf. Teaching’s never a one-way street – as Karate Kid taught me today. 🥋 🙂

@aral This is actually a thing.

It is visual consistency that helped me make the jump from macOS to Linux many years ago.

I’m not a techie plus a very visual user, and if it weren’t for @elementary OS' much-derided styleguide, I would probably still sit in my gilded iCage wondering what might be on the other side.

I had tried other distros, but being unable to see the beauty of code or licenses, you’re left with the GUI and UX – and coming from macOS, most felt like an assault on the senses.

“This enables governments and companies to construct profiles of them, using these highly sensitive details to make inferences or predictions that may or may not be accurate. Increasingly, profiles are being used to make or inform consequential decisions, from credit scoring, to hiring, to policing.”

I'm on to the second page now, but here is the first page of a little comic I'm doing. Going to neaten up and change a few things in Photoshop, but I'm pretty pleased. #comic #art #watercolour #comics #watercolor #mastoart

In today's #BlackMirrorReality news...

"Amazon, Apple and Google all employ staff who listen to customer voice recordings...

Some of the reviewers told Bloomberg that they shared amusing voice clips with one another in an internal chat room.

They also described hearing distressing clips such as a potential [trigger warning redaction - article linked below if you'd like to read it]. However, they were told by colleagues that it was not Amazon's job to intervene."

@maj @r9@sunbeam.city Of course this is no binary, either – there’s always technological or ideological barriers – but for those citizens of earth who could easily use it every now and then, it’s civil duty imo.

@maj @r9@sunbeam.city Just like I haven’t been aware for quite some time that if I put up with the minor inconveniences of looking up my dinner recipes and comic blogs through (the pages needing to load a second longer than usual), my privileged everyday nonsense helps camouflaging those vulnerable and at risk folks dependent on using Tor (like e.g. democratic dissidents in repressive regimes).
