@gerd after poking around, I think I've figured out why:

There's a lot of copy pasted code between the nest and pijul, and they want to take all the common functionality out and put it in a library (that both programs then import).

I suspect they'd be willing to open source the nest *once* they've done that.

@gerd they haven't yet open sourced the nest, which is frustrating — there are a few usability problems with it that I really want to help fix
