the problem is: the map compiler for quake 2 was never ported to linux

hghrhgrhg there's no way to compile the map into a playable file
@squirrel I think that was decided by quake devs? but I have no idea
aaaaaaaa I'm in a brush based level editor again and it's fantastic hhhhhhh

I found yamagi quake 2 and it works for playing the game!
now to see if I can set it up for level editing...

quake 2 crashes half the time I launch it
and even when it does launch, it can't do mouse input properly
