Another Non-Binary Computer for Nonbinary Day: On my trip to England's National Museum of Computing I got to see (and operate!) the Harwell Dekatron computer (AKA the WITCH), which has as it's basic unit of memory a "Dekatron" vacuum tube with 10 different states. The computer "counts" by the dekatrons all spinning in unison in a fascinating display. 💻 :heart_nb:

@sydneyfalk continuing the metaphor I'm swimming in the waters just around computerfairi.es getting rid of as much trash as I can

@mavica it may say something about me that when I saw the word "gordita" I immediately assumed "oh, the mexican pasty-type thing"

@shapr I don't know for sure but I've heard things to that effect

@stolas@elekk.xyz in that they contain baby snakes, yes

(also possibly in other ways, I don't know)

This is the Setun computer

It was developed in 1958 at Moscow State University

It used ternary logic with a balanced ternary numeral system (which is to say, -1, 0, 1)

basically: NON BINARY COMPUTER FOR NONBINARY DAY! :flag_nonbinary:

ukpol

we've finally reached the end of what would have been Cameron's 5 year term

remember when they said we'd have "chaos with Ed Milliband"?

@mavica sam doesn't understand jewellery #45: "hey! let's make stuff to go around an appendage than naturally swells and shrinks throughout the day/month/year depending on half a dozen different factors and let's make it out of a hard material so half the time it either won't come off or comes off too easily!"

The Beatles - I wanna hold your hand but instead it's about pawbs

@mavica ooh! ooh! bluetooth!

mavi can also broadcast voice to all the speakers in the room!

@mavica :thaenkin: got a spare usb port somewhere? can mavi be a keyboard?

@mavica sounds like it should be an ISO standard floating around somewhere

but yes, mavi can synth!

makes good noises too! so even more synth than the other ones!
