guns, USA

I mean, I know I'm a brit telling americans to just pay their goddamn taxes here and that has historically not gone well for us but really

guns, USA

I find the lengths US gun owners go to to avoid having to pay $200 in tax to own a "short barrelled rifle" endlessly fascinating

Stuff like "oh, this is a pistol with an... uh... arm brace" and "this doesn't have a rifled barrel so it's not a rifle"

Guys, you're spending ridiculous amounts of money here, just pay the relatively minor tax

my ordinary life: ep 32, genitals

@maple @LaserScheme "oh yeah number 6 you clumsy bastard, you would drop the screwdriver wouldn't you"

my ordinary life: ep 32, genitals

@maple @LaserScheme I've been throwing shade at various limbs for years

@vantablack now you mention it I'd like one too

Nice leather cover, gold edged pages, the works

@evie in terms of financial responsibility, no

in terms of 6 FOOT LONG FURRET PLUSH!, yes

gambling

@legendaryjoeb it certainly does if you can't wander into a bookies and bet on whatever you like

gambling

I've just seen the headline "New Jersey becomes first US state to take legal Oscars bets"

...you weren't able to before?

Over here you can bet on literally anything you want

You want to bet on who'll be the next Pope? You can do that

You want to bet on KFC running out of chicken after brexit? You can do that

I'm just really surprised that a country that has one of the biggest gambling destinations in the world doesn't let you bet on random stuff

needlessly shitting on a bit USAian exceptionalism

A thing I love is USAians trying to justify all prices in a store being shown without tax with "well, you'd need different shelf labels in every store because the taxes are so different everywhere! that would be impossible!"

Mate, I worked in a supermarket in the department that handled shelf labels

There was a printer in every store

When anyone needs a shelf label, they go and print one out

It's not hard

In the UK they call Mastodon the Tooty-Elephant

@KitRedgrave@cybre.space @Nine @CornishRepublicanArmy @MrJimmy @lynnesbian cake is basically sweet bread

fairy bread is basically sweet bread

fairy bread is therefore cake

alternative marketing campaign for a scheme based near the sea: "serfs up!"

Show thread

at some point people will try to sell us on some neo-feudalist thing with the promise that we'll all be "chillen like villeins"

Here's a watch that came out recently that's not got much attention, the Elliot Brown Holton Professional

Designed with the help of, and issued to, a military unit who the rumour mill says may or may not be based in Poole and may or may not spend a lot of time in canoes

@jk I'd hoped we would never bring up the concept of a "FuckCube" again

@LaserScheme really, "junior legal" being a paper size?

the hell do they use that for? My First Litigation playsets?!
