In the humble book bundle there's a whole book entitled "The Ultimate Basic Training Guidebook"

That seems like an awful lot of words for "do whatever your CO tells you"

Columbus was an idiot

Calling where he landed in the americas the "west indies"

First, not India, so not indies

Second, even if he were right about it being India, it wouldn't be the "west" indies, it would be the "east" indies, as in the eastern part of the indies, the "west" indies would be the western part

Apparently Salisbury has been named "the best place to live in the UK" by the Sunday Times

Nice place by all accounts, lots of my friends have recommended going there to see the 123-metre tall spire which they tell me is famous throughout the world

pet peeve about the watch industry at the moment:

faux-patina/aged lume/"ecru" lume

IT'S FUCKING BEIGE

CALL IT WHAT IT IS DAMNIT

AND PLEASE STOP USING IT, IT LOOKS CRAP

Wait, the Ecuadorians weren't even charging Assange rent?!

Shit, I've gotta piss off the US government more, apartment in London zone 1 RENT FREE?! Sign me the fuck up

Comedy zombie movie called "The Dead Don't Die" with Adam Driver, Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton, Steve Buscemi, Tom Waits, Danny Glover, Iggy Pop, and the RZA

You bet your arse I'm watching that

hedgie pics

Two of the hedgehogs had a bit of a set-to last night over who was going into the cafe first

Hedgehog fights are basically just low-speed dodgems on legs

They're both completely fine, no injuries sustained

brexit

Since Royal Assent was given to that bill that requires the PM to ask the EU for an extension to article 50 the brexiteers have started being angry at the Queen

Interesting that a bunch of people so obsessed with "sovereignty" have turned on a fucking dime against an actual literal sovereign

I can see why they've done that with them moving it to the Seiko 5 line but still, bit disappointing

It seems to use mostly the same external parts though, same midcase, bezel looks the same, so hopefully existing aftermarket parts will work with the new model and there's the possibility that aftermarket solid casebacks could bump the WR back up to 200m

It's got the same dimensions and overall shape but it's had a fair few changes, the movement is now a 4R36 which is a very nice improvement over the 7S26, it now comes with a display caseback, but the water resistance has now dropped to 100m and it's probably going to lose the ISO rating which utterly sucks

According to everything I can find Seiko have discontinued the SKX007, possibly the best dive watch in the <$250 range and a beloved favourite of watch enthusiasts everywhere

So we were all wondering what the replacement would be, and there's a leak that looks legit

y'know what? I know I said it was irrelevant but I'm gonna talk about it anyway

Eunomia was a minor greek goddess of law and legislation

Meaning it's basically called ProjectLAW

As if "They called it ProjectLAW, designed to bring truth to the internet..." isn't part of the intro narration to a low-budget dystopian sci-fi flick

on further thought our silicon-based friends can fix that in software however it's the ones made out of meat that have more trouble with misinfo and you can't solve it in software for them

Show thread

also misinformation isn't an internet problem

people have been spreading misinformation since we climbed down from the proverbial trees and probably a bit before then

it's a critical thinking problem, and you can't solve that with software
